General Information:
ZELLCHEMING is the platform for the professional technical exchange of all those involved in the development of sustainable paper and fiber-based products. In addition, ZELLCHEMING offers a wide range of opportunities to build a professional network to establish yourself in this industry and to maintain personal contacts across generations.
- Fascination for engineering and technology in process and product innovation
- The belief that the paper and pulp industry can initiate and implement positive changes that will have an impact on society beyond the industry itself.
The opportunity to actively shape the future of the paper and pulp industry by participating in technical and scientific committees or attending district group meetings. Membership also includes receiving industry information through the regular newsletter or personal member login for exclusive member content. Membership also entitles you to discounted admission to ZELLCHEMING-Expo, the annual technical meeting of industry experts and exhibiting suppliers.
ZELLCHEMING supports young scientists in many ways: These include the Young Talent Award, which is awarded annually to a maximum of two young talents and is endowed with 2,000 euros; the Science Flash, a competition for young talents that takes place at the ZELLCHEMING-Expo in front of an expert audience; scholarships for semesters abroad through the Hellmuth Müller Klemm Foundation. Free participation in all ZELLCHEMING events is also part of the promotion program for young talents. Travel costs can also be covered.
The General Assembly elects the Board of Directors, the Assessors, the Chairman of the Main Committee and the members of the Honorary Committee.
The Executive Committee, represented by the 1st and 2nd Chairman, the Treasurer and the Management, is responsible for the implementation of the decisions of the General Assembly as well as for the administration of the Association's affairs.
In order to carry out these tasks, the Association maintains an office. The head of the office is the management, which represents the association in all matters of current administration.
Important key issues are:
- Careful use of all resources, conservation of water, energy and raw materials, low CO2 emissions or CO2-neutral production
- Use of digital technology and artificial intelligence in production and marketing
- Further increasing the recyclability of paper and fiber-based products, optimizing recycling
- Developing, designing and marketing innovative products made from cellulose, cellulose derivatives, lignin and other plant raw materials.
There are currently the following technical committees::
- CELL (Cellulose and Cellulose Derivatives)
- CHAD (Chemical Additives)
- CHEP (Chemical Pulping)
- COAT (Coating of Paper and Board)
- DATA (Pulp and Paper Testing)
- ENEN (Plant Engineering and Energy)
- ENVI (Environmental Issues)
- FPPB (Finishing of Paper and Paperboard)
- MBIO (Microbiology)
- MECP (Mechanical Pulping)
- PBTC (Paperboard Technology)
- PMAK (Papermaking)
- RECO (Recovered Paper Utilisation)
- SAFE (Health and Safety)
as well as the technical sub-committees
- ENEN1 (Energy)
- ENEN2 (Electrical Engineering and Automation)
- PIA (Paper in Innovative Applications) (ruht derzeit)
Please contact the appropriate Technical Committee Chair to request a guest invitation.
Regional events (district group meetings) are held on a regular basis, with speaker programs and plant tours.
On the one hand by membership, on the other hand by active participation in the activities of the association and by cooperation in the technical-scientific committees.
By participating in the various committees of the association, members get closer to ZELLCHEMING and take on more and more responsibility.
A professional or topical connection to the pulp and paper industry or fiber-based materials.
Yes, professionally trained chemists and other natural scientists, engineers as well as persons who prove their suitability for membership by their work in research, teaching, industry and trade can become members of the association.
Companies and persons from the pulp and paper industry, companies of the supply industry from Germany and abroad as well as associations and federations with similar topics from Europe and overseas.
More than 115 years of tradition in its function as a link between research as well as technology and production.
Useful Information:
More than 1,000 individual members in G/S/A and abroad, more than 200 corporate members in G/S/A and abroad. A growing number of students (currently 60).
There are individual and corporate memberships
Membership is free for students with dual membership in the APV/VPM/CCCD. Individual members pay 210 Euros per year. The fees for companies are graduated according to the annual turnover and the number of free members. The minimum fee for companies is 700 Euros per year with two free members.
Communication with members is done through traditional mail, electronic newsletters and LinkedIn social media channels. The website is used as an additional information medium.
In the course of the work of the ZELLCHEMING technical committees, more than 100 technical bulletins have been published and are currently valid. The range of topics covered in these bulletins covers all areas relevant to the manufacture of paper and fiber-based products: from yield figures for recovered paper processing companies to testing the absorption behavior of printing ink/printing paper combinations.
The technical leaflets are available in the restricted member area. Downloading is free for members, non-members pay 20 Euro plus VAT per Technical Leaflet.
You can reset your password by clicking on the "Forgot Password?" button.
The Technical Committee Chair will be happy to send you a guest invitation.

Outlook:
The technical committees of ZELLCHEMING continue to develop topics and address new areas of growing importance for the industry.
ZELLCHEMING makes a positive contribution to securing the future of an innovative paper and fiber-based industry as a responsible designer and initiator. This makes ZELLCHEMING an important player in the context of politics, business and society (as a core element of a sustainable EU bio-economy).
ZELLCHEMING not only serves as a platform for the professional exchange of all those involved in the development of sustainable paper and fiber-based products, but also as an important interface to related sectors and industries, e.g. the materials industry and lignin-based products.
